I am delighted at the founding of SECHSA!!! As an occasional attendee
at the ancient CHSA, co-founder with Amy Young of the South Central
Historical Archeology Conference (the final K in the acronym must be
supplied by the reader) with its 14th gathering scheduled for 14-16
Sep. at Mobile, and my not-too-far-off upcoming status as a retired
Jester from the sidelines, I encourage all the lonely historical
archeologists in the "SE" (in quotes because we're still trying to
define "South Central" and vast overlap is welcome) to go to
Charleston. Can't be any hotter than now, and the delights of smaller
conferences are many.
I was strongly considering going myself, but a fall from a stairway
down from the deck beside our above ground pool two weeks ago has
left me laid up with a broken acetabulum, and I probably won't make
it to SCHAC 14 either. (I hope nobody really believes I'm going to
write up all those pending site reports while I'm laid up, at least
as long as the good Rx drugs keep coming.)
Yall have a good time.
