I'm teaching survey class on dramatic literature this semester, and I had
the bright idea that I would include some opera. My choices (already set
in stone) are Mozart's Figaro and Don Giovanni.
I will be able to show my students both operas on laser disc, and for one
class I have invited a guest lecturer from the music department.
Any suggestions for teaching these wonderful texts would be welcome. The
students are not, for the most part, musically literate; therefore, I
cannot use musicological terms.
