ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.
*****************************************************************************
In the early 1980s, Pittsburgh's Buhl Planetarium and
Institute of Popular Science started an aggressive
volunteer program, even though volunteers had always
assisted with Buhl programs since the institution's
founding in 1939.
We found that many of the best and brightest students
in the Greater Pittsburgh Area became Buhl volunteers.
In one instance, a volunteer almost received a
National Merit Scholarship for college--but failed to
receive it due to the school she had chosen to attend.
However, the failure to win this scholarship did not
stop her. Today, she is a physician and medical
researcher at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in
Rochester, Minnesota! You can read more details about
Yuri A. Saito, M.D. at:

So, you may want to add a section to your thesis about
Science Center volunteer programs assisting in the
education of gifted students.

Hi,
I'm doing my thesis on gifted students and their use
of technology in
science museums and how it can supplement their
education. I would
appreciate it if I could get some feedback from
institutions that recognize
giftedness and if not then do you recognize all
children who walk
through your door as gifted?
1)Your definition of gifted
2)Do you have programming specifically designed for
gifted students
3)Your definition of technology
4)Ways technology is incorporated into exhibits and
programming
5)Education theories used in preparing programs and
exhibits
Thanks in advance for your help,
Jaime M. Knoedler
