Let me explain. I know that VW wrote a piece called "5 Variants on
'Dives and Lazarus'" for harp and strings (he wrote it for the Thirties
New York World's Fair, incidentally). However, it's a set of variations
on a folk tune, "Dives and Lazarus," which is indeed a great melody.
I was teasing Jeff a bit. It reminded me of the joke made to Vaughan
Williams about his "best-sellers not being [his] own," a joke VW enjoyed.
Ah well.
