good call Rstewart, here is the draft link
http://energycommerce.house.gov/Press_111/20090526/fsea_draft.pdf
this is the big law we should all be worried about. while the factory food processors are
mostly the sources that sicken america the after affects of this bill could be felt
significantly by anyone selling food to grocery stoes.
for example why should a sideliner or small honey packer pay a $1000 fee to help with
inspections when Soiux or Kraft etc pays the same amount? The little guys will be
subsidizing FDA inspections of larger corporations who are out to put them out of business
in some cases.
the law in draft form exempts direct sales to consumers at farmers markets and to
restraunts. anyone putting honey on a shelf will be faced with the $1000 fee and
mandatory FDA inspections every 18 mths to 3 years and also required to provide
traceability codes on their product.
sounds like fun eh? if health care, worker comp and the rest of the gouging does not put
us little guys out of business this food safety law could be the final straw for some.
I urge everyone to look this over and contact your congress reps to get your opinion
heard. This issue has a lot of traction in Washington after the last few years of massive
recalls.
