This is a fascinating story of mutualism. Mutualism is a form of symbiosis
in which the activities of two (or more) organisms benefit from a
relationship. Parasitism is another form of symbiosis. Sloths that live in
trees expend a lot of just to poop at the base of their tree. . It turns
out to be an interesting story of mutualism which I won't reveal any more
than to say that the research suggests it is important for their caloric
intake, involves a moth and perhaps camouflage from predation by an eagle
by algae.
