ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

Our small museum is not open to the public regularly, once a month.
During the school year, local school classes regularly attend the museum
from 9 am to 3-4 pm during the week. Museum staff, now one person, and
sometimes two are there from 9 to 2:30 pm. The only way for someone
trying to get in is through the locked front door, which is only
unlocked for school visits. The only way to tell if anyone is in the
office is if the lights are on in the office, and the office windows are
7' off the ground. There is a buzzer, but, if people in the office are
on the phone, it may take them many minutes to walk out to the door and
open it. All this and more presents a problem for people who drop in on
occasion. I'm looking for away to make this easier on everyone.

I suspect and outdoor to office intercom might work, but I doubt anyone
is going to wire one up. In our house, I'm usually in an outside
building, which has a phone that's part of the household phone system.
My wife and I use a The Shack (Radio Shack) inexpensive telephone
connected intercom. When someone wants my attention in another area,
they press the call button and initiate a conversation. I don't think
this will work at the museum, since there's no phone outside. Maybe
Shack has an inexpensive one that has it's own "phone" facility. If so,
it would be easy to hook up. Put one "phone" on the wall outside, and
run the wire through the window into the office. The window is easy to
open, protected from the weather, and lockable in any position. Anyway,
I'm looking for suggestions on how to simplify getting the attention in
the office. Maybe a wireless device would work.
