Lower East Side Performing Arts Presents The Two Cents Opera by Elodie
Lauten, Weekends from March 12 to 29 at Theater for the New City in
Manhattan

Lower East Side Performing Arts (LESPA), Inc. presents The Two-Cents
Opera, with book, score and direction by Elodie Lauten for three weekends,
from March 12 to 29 - Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM and Sundays
at 3PM at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue at 10th Street in
Manhattan.

The Two-Cents Opera is about creative survival in an insecure world
and is Elodie Lauten's fantasy about writing an opera where real,
surreal and supernatural co-exist. In this new work, the composer
relates to the experience of writing an opera as an adventure in the
absurd. Autobiographical slices of reality are woven in with surreal
elements, ??66rom a twice-removed perspective that never lacks humor.

Performers will be baritone Gregg Lauterbach, sopranos Karmen Kluge and
Jennifer Greene (who plays the Composer), mezzo soprano Mary Hurlbut and
baritone Ulysses Borgia. Dancer Khoi Bao Le (currently with the White
Wave Dance Company and Martha Graham School) will improvise choreography
in the role of the Trickster. The instrumental accompaniment is provided
by Jonathan Hirschman on guitar, Andrew Bolotowsky on flute, Rafael
DeStella on contrabass, Bill Ruyle on percussion, Elodie Lauten on piano
and alternatively a playback of programmed electronic tracks. Performer
