Regarding Mount Wilson Observatory: the Observatory grounds are open to
visitors 10 to 4 seven days a week (except in winter). Docent-led
tours occur each Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. The visitors' gallery for
the 100-inch telescope is open, as is the Astronomical Museum. The
60-inch telescope dome is not normally open to visitors. Mt. Wilson does not
have anything like Griffith's splashy displays, but if you like
historical instruments, Mt. Wilson is a great place to visit. Visitors can see
much of the CHARA interferometer hardware just by walking around the
grounds. More information at www.mwoa.org and www.mtwilson.edu . The
Observatory is approximately a 45-minute to 1-hour drive from Pasadena.
