Bob / Ontario Said:
Dripac meat pads are soaked with 35-40 ml , 65% FORMIC ACID........
Hello Bob,
The mitewipe is Dri loc pads. Alberta beekeepers reported that they apply
mite wipe pads as 2 pads (total of 80 ml, 65% formic acid / 2
boxes-hive). They apply the double pads once every 10 days, 3 times in
late spring and early CND summer. The ambient temperature is >15C. Some
beekeepers use mitewipe pads during fall, whoever, it gets too cold in our
area and most of the time it can fail. Results are also too variable.
Spring treatment if conditions are met, efficacy can be up to 90% +. Once
again FA has inherited problems with temperature, hive size, cluster size,
brood, quality of equipment, etc. All of the listed variable will
determine how much efficacy can be achieved. In Alberta Mitewipe is used
as a supplementary treatment with oxalic acid or to alternate with Apivar
to use Apivar once a year. If you read our surveys in the last 3 years, it
shows that formic acid treatment has been shifted to spring/ late summer
time to ensure good efficacy.
