Not long ago I had occasion to learn a bit more about how to use MSExcel,
and, following the example of a couple of friends who use it for the
purpose, I began using it to list a chunk of about 700 of my CDs.

Having now completed that task, as long as I take one or two minutes to
enter info when something new enters my collection, it's not a big deal.
In fact, I took that opportunity to organize those CDs alphabetically
in cases on my shelves -- doing away with the old 'system' I had, which
was by nationality -- and this new tidyness suits me fine.

I have seven columns of information, and could some day add an eighth
or more if it seems a good idea. I can also add any hyperlinks I'd like
to associate with any CD, textual comments of any kind that will pop up
on demand. Also, it's easy to add information by copy-pasting, and to
switch things around without any trouble.

A few other advantages: it doesn't make for a 'weighty' document,
in terms of KBs and MBs; there's transferability to just about anyone
anywhere (everyone's got Microsoft); colouring, bold, and other features
help to set some artists apart visually; etc. I may add other features
that I learn, or want to add, down the road.
