If you can darken the presentation area, this works quite well. It's
just a variation on the classic flame test, but instead of using
alcohol, you dip a wet wood splint in a little of the chemical, then
hold it in the flame of a propane blowtorch. Only a little bit needed,
the colors are easily visible.
The salts are sodium chloride, cupric chloride, potassium chloride +
strontium chloride. (They include lithium chloride, too, but the
difference between that and the strontium is very subtle.)

Does anybody have recommendations for 'safe-ish' elements to use for a
fireworks demo? Safe for both staff and the audience members. I'm
mainly concerned about inhalation hazards.
We are planning to drop/sift the elements over a propane torch flame
(not putting them inside of a Hydrogen balloon). Any expertise is
greatly appreciated.
