Martin said:" The question of God is not the issue. Science has nothing to
say about God's existence, does it?"

I strongly agree. And I know from practical experience that this is a
crucial, universal key for unlocking prejudice. I often successfully present
evolutionary science to Christian groups. But if it is true that science has
nothing to say about God's existence, this message is certainly not coming
across. The public perception is very much the reverse, at a deep level.

Militant creationism and scientistic atheism are actually conspiring and
campaigning together in an unholy alliance to teach that science has plenty
to say about God. It is ironic that the opposing sides are in total
agreement over this.

Just glance at any militant creationist website e.g.
http://www.creationresearch.net to see how much prominence is given to
science-based evidence for their claims about God.

Similarly, when a best-selling book called "The God Delusion" is published
by Britain's most famous evolutionary scientist, who was also until recently
Professor of Public Understanding of Science, it doesn't much matter if the
author actually admits that science itself has nothing to say about God. In
the public mind, the opposite message comes across loud and clear.

Thomas Huxley, Darwin's Bulldog, was no friend of religion, but he gave us
the word 'agnosticism'. He fully understood that atheism should not be seen
as the official religion of science. Is it? What matters here is the public
perception.
