While I would certainly respect Ms. Ma's perspective, it's interesting
to note that she makes a generalization (or at least the news source
reduced it to a generalization) that purports to speak for all Chinese
people. I'm not sure there is such thing as a homogenous culture.
While it may be true in the particular and it may be true more often
than not, it completely ignores acculturation.....
I just find the whole issue of displaying remains fascinating, for
what it reveals about my own biases, my own uncertainties, and my own
rationalizations.
