thanks Paul. Here's more info for you (and anyone else)

-the idea is that the stations make up a series of games, carnival
midway style
-each station highlights a feature of our green building
-since each station is a game, points can be earned
-stations are free standing, and it is not necessary to go in a
particular order or even see all of them
-the game will continue at home in an online format, where kids can
continue to earn points
-we haven't quite figured out what the points will earn you, but there
will be something (% off at shop, free child admission, something)

we haven't figured out:
a) how to track the points
b) what the reward will be
c) how to get visitors to continue playing at home
d) if this sort of system is generally successful (see original
question), or should we run screaming before proceeding one step
further.
e) why he has such funny little front legs (you'll either recognize that
or you won't. you know who you are)

Thanks again.

Hi Alissa,

It's not clear (to me, at least) if you WANT visitors to visit every
station.

If you do want visitors to visit each station, in my experience it seems
to
work best to connect the task of visiting each station into some
storyline
with an inherent challenge, rather than points (Points for what?
valuable
prizes?)

For example, "Can you help Screwy Squirrel find five different leaf
shapes
around the museum?"

Certain types of visitors really rise to these types of challenges and
will
really expend a great deal of effort in completing the inventory of
stations.

Also, many visitors enjoy the added challenge of finding all the
stations if
there is some "bonus" to visiting each station like being able to use
all
the answers/pictures/whatever from each station to complete the answer
to a
riddle, or solve a code, etc. (For instance, using the leaf example
above,
"Can you solve the riddle by making a word from the first letter of the
name
of the tree each leaf comes from?")

Good luck!
