ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

No alcoholic beverages at any event with children. That was the policy at every museum I had the pleasure of working for or with.
If they rent the place for a private party that is quite different. At one of the CMs where I worked, parents would bring booze to birthday parties fairly often. We quickly asked them to put it away but on one occasion it had to be confiscated.
If you feel you can not trust them to just put it away then confiscate it and then return it when they leave the next day. I would certainly not make a scene with kids present.

I am especially looking for folks who have written policies about this, and what they have done when those policies have been violated. For example, have you had to start searching bags? Do you throw out the groups? Do you confiscate the beverages and dump them down the sink?
