Hello all,
The National Academies has released a draft of the national framework for K-12 science education. The original document is available at
http://www.nap.edu/catalog.php?record_id=13165
Here in the Education Department of the Connecticut Science Center, we recently spent some time looking through it. We strive for educational programs that facilitate and augment the curriculum being covered in schools. We wanted to see the content not only as threads that were building, but also across grade-levels to see developmental levels and interconnections (for instance, there are several Boundaries - concepts that are specifically not taught to younger students).
We put the content strands in to a spreadsheet to facilitate viewing them horizontally or vertically in grade or subject, and thought it might be useful to other folks doing similar work. You can access the spreadsheet via google documents at
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnCVrB7zV_S5dGRacjFPb1diV0lma0FFc3JFamwzckE&hl=en_US
The spreadsheet is not intended as a stand-alone introduction to the ~300 page National Academies document, but as a handy reference for the recommended content standards.
Hope it helps,
Luke Donev, Ph.D.
