Allen,
Want a simple, clear response to your original question!
Since arriving on PEI last year, I have shipped in selected Russian
queens from the Nova Scotia Russian queen program.
Two reasons:
1. The stock on PEI is said to be totally unpressurized by Tracheal
mites - and therefore tolerance to this mite is presumed to be "very
limited".
2. To observe the capacity of colonies headed by queens produced from
the NS program regarding varroa mite.
What will the mite populations do in this environment.
How will they compare with "traditional" colonies.
Winter here is hard - being relatively cold, damp followed by stressful
spring conditions.
Will be interesting to see how things develop.
Regards,
Peter
