Folks:
On August 3, 1849, the three masted ship General Harrison sailed from
Boston, rounded Cape Horn, and after a seven-month voyage reached San
Francisco Bay. Deserted by the crew who were lured away to newly
discovered California gold fields the vessel would end her career as a
floating warehouse consumed in a raging fire. The growing city would
cover the charred remains but one hundred and fifty years later the
General Harrison would see daylight once again.
Dr. James P. Delgado shares this story in the first of a two part post on
the MUA. You can read part one by clicking the link on our home page
