Spring 2010
Clemson University’s Clemson Conservation Center in North Charleston, SC is
seeking to fill a Research Scholar position to aid project archaeologists
with the
ongoing three-dimensional reconstruction and analysis of the American
Civil War
submarine H.L. Hunley. The position will entail working with and
integrating 3D
scanning data, provenience information from the excavation, sketches,
photographic records, and other archaeological data to develop a CAD-format
site plan.
The candidate can expect to receive instruction and training in a number of
software packages, including Geomagic Studio and Rhinoceros NURBS modeling,
as well as practical exposure in topometric 3D metrology using the Breuckmann
OptoTOP-HE white-light scanner. Experience with 3D modeling and data
collection are all helpful, but not required. Preference is given to
applicants
with archaeological training and experience.
The position will be available beginning in January 2010 and lasts through
the
end of June. A small stipend is provided. The application deadline is January
15th 2010.
