Subject: Re: Mystery Objects

A client sent us (lousy) photos of two cast iron objects that appear to
be counter-weights of some sort. Has anyone ever seen something like
this? The only provenience information we have is that they were found
on two separate but close by house sites in an upland setting in Clayton
County, GA. They can be seen at:

on-objects

We have figured out that the iron mystery objects are probably
counter-weights for a Steelyard balance and, in fact, found identical
ones on an antique balance for sale on Ebay! Between Ebay and Google
research is lot easier than it used to be! Thanks to all who responded.
