• General Position Description: Under the direction of the Big Bend Ranch Complex General Superintendent, this is a dual functioning position which is responsible for the cultural resources program for the entire Big Bend Ranch State Park Complex, which includes Fort. Leaton State Historic Site, Barton Warnock Environmental Education Center, Big Bend Ranch State Park (BBRSP) and Chinati Mountains State Natural Area; and the interpretative and educational programs for BBRSP. Serves as the cultural resource specialist for the Big Bend Ranch State Park Complex. Conducts archeological surveys and reviews park projects for potential impacts to cultural resources, especially archeological sites, at the Big Bend Ranch State Park Complex. Responsible for ensuring agency compliance with state and federal antiquities laws, including the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Code (TPWD), the Antiquities Code of Texas, and the National Historic Preservation Act. Responsible for ensuring that all park construction projects are reviewed using the TPWD's resources review process. Monitors archeological sites for potential damage from natural or manmade forces and provides guidance to the park superintendents and park police officers in archeological site protection and monitoring.Incumbent complies with all Agency, Division, and park rules, regulations and procedures. Serves as the interpretive specialist for BBRSP. Develops and implements interpretive and educational programs, including formal and informal interpretive presentations, guided tours, exhibits, brochures, outreach, interpretive signage, and educational programs for BBRSP. Assists with promotion and marketing of the park and its programs and assists in the recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and branch rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Working Conditions: (1) Public park with overnight camping; (2) Forty hour week includes hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and days off other than Saturday, Sunday and holidays; (3) Required to perform duties outdoors in remote desert wilderness setting and inclement weather conditions; (4) Some overnight travel will be required; (5) Non-smoking work environment in all State buildings and vehicles; (6) Conform to agency work rules, dress and grooming standards and safety programs; (7) State housing may be available with a required housing payroll deduction to be determined. Housing rate is established by oversight agencies and may change according to market value.
• Minimum Qualifications:
o Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Anthropology/Archeology.
o Experience: (1) Four years experience in archeology, to include experience in archeological fieldwork and writing professional reports on archeological or cultural resources issues; (2) Experience in interpreting or conducting education programs. Note: Experience may have occurred concurrently. Preferred Experience: (1) Archeological survey supervision; (2) Project management; (3) Cultural resources management in a park environment; (4) Writing professional monographs or reports on archeological or cultural resources issues; (5) Developing and conducting interpretive education programs.
o License/Certifications: Must possess or be able to obtain, within thirty days of employment, a Texas class "C" driver's license. Note: Retention of the position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining the required license.

o Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (1) Knowledge of prehistoric and historic archeology, gained through academic training and field experience; (2) Knowledge of prehistoric and historic material culture; (3) Knowledge of artifact identification and analysis techniques; (4) Knowledge of Texas prehistoric and historic archeology, especially of the Big Bend region; (5) Knowledge and experience with state and federal antiquities laws; (6) Knowledge of historic architecture; (7) Knowledge of natural resources protection and stewardship practices; (8) Knowledge of environmental assessment and impact statements; (9) Knowledge of interpretive techniques such as living history, exhibit development, publication preparation, and public programs; (10) Knowledge of and ability to plan, organize and manage special events and make public presentations and tours for individuals and groups of varying sizes, ages and backgrounds; (11) Knowledge of basic marketing, including the ability to write news releases and conduct media interviews; (12) Skill in archeological survey techniques including site identification and archeological field recording site testing and significance assessments; (13) Skill in archeological/technical report writing; (14) Skill in compilation of Geographic Information System (GIS) site maps and data bases; (15) Skill in technical writing and editing; (16) Skill in effective verbal and written communication; (17) Skill in using personal computers to include Microsoft software with programs such as Word and Excel; (18) Skill in managing multiple projects, short deadlines, and conflicting priorities; (19) Ability to apply cultural resource management theory and practice; (20) Ability to apply research techniques and methodologies; (21) Ability to utilize GIS/GPS for field recording and database compilation; (22) Ability to manage and coordinate diverse program activities and accomplish program goals using independent judgment and initiative; (23) Ability to work with individuals with different types of trainin
