Yes, my apologies again; I have vague memories of starting this whole debate
a couple of times already. My fault again for forgetting to "translate" back
into American usage. I just checked my "Oxford Concise Dictionary of
Archaeology," for example, and found that "historical archaeology" is
defined "a branch of archaeology based on the text-aided study of
archaeological questions. It involves combining archaeological and
historical methods, sources, and perspectives, and naturally focuses on
relatively recent periods. It is sometimes called historic sites
archaeology." And this is basically what I was taught in Canada, and what I
had been led to believe I had been doing here in Europe all this time. And
this is also consistent with the histories (including Trigger) I have read
on the discipline, and introductory texts, etc.
So sorry: I was under the mistaken impression that "historical archaeology"
referred to a methodology, not a specific time period.

Anita's right, there is a sense of deja vu all over again about this
discussion.
