Hello, fellow Histarchers,

Has anyone encountered, and identified, stoneware ale/beer bottles marked
"RICE & SIMONS"? We have a 30-oz brown stoneware bottle with this mark from
a ca. 1865-70 deposit and haven't been able to track down the
maker/distributor or whatever Rice & Simons might have been.

I've posted an image with a close up of the mark on Archaeoseek in the
Artifact ID Help section:
http://archaeoseek.ning.com/group/artifactidhelp/forum/topics/unidentified-mark-on-stoneware

I can send the jpg separately for those not on Archaeoseek who want a
gander.

Any advice on the mark and/or on sources we may have missed (consider the
usual suspects as having been shaken down) is much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Mary B.
