General Position Description: Under the direction of the Cultural Resources Program Director, the Cultural Resource Coordinator (CRC) is responsible for coordinating all cultural resource management activities within the region. This position is responsible for ensuring agency compliance with state and federal antiquities laws, including the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) Code, the Antiquities Code of Texas, and the National Historic Preservation Act. Reviews projects on properties within the region owned or managed by TPWD. Responsible for developing scopes of work and management and oversight of contracted work; develops cultural resource management plans for individual state parks. Manages project budgets. Provides technical assistance and staff support to operations and site superintendents. Functions as a member of project teams and performs work in the field. ntegrity. All regional activities not otherwise exempt from review and which involve ground disturbance, vegetation clearing-except hand clearing, or modification of historic landscapes are reviewed and assessed by the Resource Coordinator. Provides assistance to the Cultural Resources Program Director. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.
Working Conditions: (1) Regular workweek is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some work on Saturdays and Sundays; (2) Requires in-state travel including overnight stays; (3) Non-smoking work environment in all State buildings and vehicles; (4) Must conform to agency work rules, safety procedures and dress and grooming standards; (5) Must be able to work in inclement weather to include extreme heat and cold; (6) Chosen applicant will serve a two month training period at the TPWD Headquarters, Austin, TX; (7) Permanent duty station is LaPorte, Texas.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Anthropology, Archeology, Applied History, Historic Preservation, or related field.
Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience, with three years of supervisory experience in: (1) Archeological fieldwork; or (2) Project management; or (3) Cultural resources management; or (4) Writing professional monographs or reports on archeological or cultural resources issues. Note: The five years experience is counted after the Master's degree is awarded. Any experience received prior to the Master's degree will not be accepted as part of the five years experience.
License/Certifications: Must possess or be able to obtain, within thirty days of employment, a valid class "C" Texas driver's license. NOTE: Retention of position is contingent on obtaining and maintaining required license.
