Paul. it may not measure up to Vergil, but Latin (of sorts) is still valued
in the Franciscan friaries in which I have worked. It has made me immensely
popular with my clients. I just purchased a new set of plastic buckets for my
field school and have identified them as mine and as assignments to particular
students by stenciling well-known and appropriate Latin phases on them. I
figure that many students will be interested in what they mean or will be
pleased when they can translate them for curious passers-by. This will rerinforce
their interest in the language. I am doing my bit.
Examples: "The dead do not bite"
"Speak only good of the dead"
                 "Time reveals all"
