Ron and other HISARCHers not on vacation.

We find that HISARCH is a GREAT resource. We use it all the time. Keep up
the Good Work, Anita!!!!

FYI: Keep tuned for more information on the upcoming SHA and SAA
Archeochemistry Workshops (Chemistry for Historical Archaeologists
(Terrestrial and Underwater) who want to get the basics from Introductory
Chemistry to Field and Laboratory Analytical Methods) in a 2-day laboratory
and Field Workshop that emphasizes inexpensive laboratory and field
technologies. Dr. Claudia Brackettv and I held a very successful, 1-day
workshop at SHA at Williamsburg with optional field surveys at the College
of William and Mary and the Ravenswood site at Colonial Williamsburg.

We are planning an expanded Workshop with a full day for the Chemistry for
Archaeology Lectures, demonstrations of new and inexpensive laboratory
technologies (ideas we "borrowed" from Forensic Archaeology) and a full day
of Combined Survey Format (CSF) archaeogeophysical and archaeochemical
studies of a 16th Century Spanish\Native American contact site near
Albuquerque.

If this format is successful, we hope to find an historic era site near
Vancouver (a buried ship under a field would be nice to compare with our
data on a possible 16th Century English wreck we are working on in
California) that we can do a similar CSF studie on as a part of the Workshop
there.

Finally, Wondjina Research Institute (WRI) is issuing a call for papers for
a SAA Symposium dealing with the use of PXRF for archaeochemical field
studies of either prehistoric or historic era sites. The
symposium would be chaired by Dr. Claudia Brackett and myself with the
possibility of Dr. Luis Barba of UNAM acting as a presenter and discussant.
If there is enough interest, the talks could be broken up into two seperate
symposia-one dealing with prehistoric sites and one dealing with historic
and underwater sites. This would be an extension of the very successful
symposia that were presented on archaeochemical and archaeogeophysical
topics at San Juan and Austin.
