Friends!

On Saturday, 6 October 2012, the Illinois State Archaeological Survey and the Department of Anthropology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will be hosting this year's Midwest Historical Archaeology Conference. Our topic this year is:

Archaeological Insights and Civic Engagement: Learning from Midwest Historical Sites

The morning session is pretty well booked, with a series of 20-minute papers covering a wide variety of topics relating to public outreach and interpretation, ranging from domestic residential sites and town sites, to abandoned cemeteries and more …

The afternoon session will be devoted to individual 5-10 minute papers/presentations and posters on ANY aspect of Historical Archaeology in the Midwest. This would be a great opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students to present the results of their research in a non-judgmental, but formal setting. We do have a number of slots open in the afternoon, and we would like to encourage everyone to consider either attending or contributing. We would like to have titles and abstracts for all presenters no later than 30 September.

There is no registration fee for this event, but we are asking everybody who plans to attend to pre-register. This will allow us to plan refreshments, etc., accordingly …

For general information on the Conference, including locations, motel recommendations, events, etc.,
please visit our general website:

http://www.isas.illinois.edu/mhac.shtml

For pre-registration, please contact me directly at [log in to unmask] and I will forward the registration
form in PDF form to you.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to hearing from many of you!

Mark

"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their

faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving

only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their

cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste

of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to

make plans." - E. Hemingway
