DeKnow seems to feel that "live and let die" refers to beekeepers as well as 
to bees.  He makes a good case.  It's hard on those eliminated, but 
extinction has always been part of evolutionary "progress".  Let people 
alone to do what they can, any way they can.  If they're smart and lucky 
they may survive, and the rest of us may learn from their success; if not, 
the world didn't need them.
