You don't need to leave any brood behind. The old queen and the field
bees will repopulate a broodnest. You could leave a partially filled
super on the bottom board, with the full supers on top. Or, if you
have any deeps of honey and empty comb left over from your trashing,
put that on the bottom board. That's what I do. Once the queen has
established a broodnest with emerging brood, I requeen it with my
last round of queens.
