The Town of Fort Myers Beach invites applications for an Outreach
Coordinator for the Southwest Regional Center of the Florida Public
Archaeology Network. The Outreach Coordinator will develop and
implement archaeologically oriented programs intended for diverse
public audiences. The Florida Public Archaeology Network was
established in 2004 “... to help stem the rapid deterioration of [the]
state's buried past and to expand public interest in archaeology” (S.
267.145(1), Florida Statutes). The three principal goals of Regional
Centers are to provide public outreach, assistance to local
governments, and assistance to the Division of Historical Resources in
the administration of its archaeological responsibilities. For more

Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include
assisting the Director of the Southwest Regional Center in developing,
coordinating, and delivering public programs in archaeology and
historic preservation over a five county area (Glades, Hendry,
Charlotte, Lee, and Collier); assist local governments in their
efforts to preserve and protect regional archaeological resources;
maintain outreach tools such as FPAN center’s website, mailing list,
and quarterly newsletter; establish collaborative relationships and
serve as a liaison between the Mound House, the Florida Division of
Historical Resources, local governments, and local archaeological,
historical, and conservation groups and institutions; and create
general public friendly materials for a variety of events including
press releases and event publicity.

A master’s degree in Anthropology, History, Public Relations,
Communications, Education, or related field is preferred with three
years or more of relevant work experience. Candidates with a
Bachelor’s degree in one of the above disciplines with more than three
years of work experience in archaeology or heritage education may be
considered. Preferred qualifications include excellent public speaking
and interpersonal skills, public archaeology experience including
working with volunteers and school children. Proficiency with
Microsoft Office suite is required including database entry and
management and familiarity with social networking applications. This
position requires extensive travel in a five-county area including
some weekends and evenings.
