Some of us use metric in all our fieldwork. I distinctly recall buying  
thirty metric measuring tapes for a field crew on a highways project in 1971 and  
had to replace the lot in another dig in 1973. I think some of you younger 
folks  decided it would be "retro cool" to revert back to 4-inch arbitrary  levels!
