That's interesting. Here in the UK there is a decline in the Noctule bat, a  
fairly large one that flies in the early evening, sometimes mingling with  
swifts etc and may actually take honeybees (keeping on topic!).  The  suspected 
cause of the dwindling is lack of insect prey as farm insecticides get  more 
efficient.  There may actually be poisoning through eating flying  beetles that 
have been eating dung that has come from cattle that have been  drenched with 
an insecticide (may have been a wormer). The food chain is long  and 
complicated and all things are connected.
