I've used a 25 mile rated solar powered unit attempting to control
cattle which was not useful in areas where tall weeds and grass
grew. To burn weeds and grass (kill the growing tips), I use a 50
mile weed burning unit operated by 110 AC to separate bulls from
cows. When the electric wire is touched, a blue popping spark is
visible. I've accidentally touched the wire and received a painful
shock. If an electric fence is installed, consider using two 8-feet
long grounding rods driven into the ground about 6 to 8 feet apart
connected in series to the ground pole on the unit. If a 110 AC
electrical source is available, consider using it. The 25 mile rated
solar powered unit is suitable to place knee-high around a strawberry
bed or a garden to prevent deer from eating the plants.
