Why would they not do it? When doing lots of queen cells in same scenario, don't they at times help the queens? So why not a few workers here and there. Certainly they could hear the cry in distress for doing. Livestock are known for helping other livestock in general if they can, and bees are livestock. Sounds like a paper needing to be written and worked on...
