Chris:
Wondjina Research Institute (WRI) is discussing with local universities in Botswana the possibility of an Archaeochemical\Geochemical Workshop\portable X-Ray Fluorescence (pXRF) Field Seminar\Symposium in Botswana in late July at Palapye or Gaborone and tied with the Africa Mining Congress in Johannesburg on July 26-28. Are there any other Field Schools or Archaeological Conferences scheduled for Botswana, Zambia or the Union of South Africa during this period AND, if we get things organized in time, would the Africa Diaspora Archaeology Newsletter be an appropriate forum for advertizing this project or would another forum be more appropriate?
WRI is currently supported in its pXRF research by a grant from INNOV-X Systems, one of the world leaders in pXRF technology for geochemical and archaeometric\archaeological field applications and was previously supported by THERMO Fisher Scientific NITON.
Dr. Claudia Brackett and myself introduced this technology for soil, plant and artifact archaeochemical surveys in 2005 and have done several archaeochemical workshops and organized and Co-Chaired symposia on this topic at SAA's in San Juan Puerto Rico, Vancouver BC and, this spring, at St. Louis Missouri; SHA's at Williamsburg Virginia, Albuquerque New Mexico, Toronto Ontario and, in January, Amelia Island Florida. In addition, WRI and Dr. Brackett have made presentations and conducted workshops on the this technology in Guadalajara and Mexico City, Mexico; Burbank, Modesto, San Francisco and San Diego California; Tampa Florida and Phoenix Arizona.
Your advice would be helpful in this manner. For further information or to discuss your thoughts on what would be most appropriate, please feel free to e-mail or call Dr. Brackett or myself at WRI's Sonora California office number: (209) 532-3873.
Sincerely,

Subject: CFS, 2010 Field School Notices
I include a directory of information on 2010 field schools in the March
issues of the African Diaspora Archaeology Newsletter. If you are
convening a field school in African historical or African diaspora
subjects, please send me your notice information so I can include it in
the issue.
Many thanks,
Chris
