I am doing a heritage assessment on an igloo type Hangar believed to date
from 1944. I am trying to identify what type it is. It looks a bit like a
Blister hangar but the internal frames are not constructed as per the
drawings I have of a Blister Hangar.
The Hangars most interesting feature is the pin joints between the two arc's
of the steel frames and between the ends of the frames and the building
foundations. I have checked all the available Australian, UK and USA
references. It could possible be a Clearspan hangar as I have a description
of a hangar with pin joints offered for sale by Clearspan Pty Ltd from
Melbourne, Australia but no further details have come to light.
I have put a picture of the interior of the hangar on the JCIS Consultants
website (www.jcis.net.au) , go to the site and click “What’s this” and you
will get to it.
