 Histarchers: thought some of you might be in the St. Augustine area and
able to attend this great (and free) program of interest to a lot of us.
  "Why St. Augustine?" program
The St. Augustine Historical Society, the City of St. Augustine's Dept. of
Heritage Tourism, and University of Florida-Flagler College Historic St.
Augustine Research Institute present a program that investigates early
settlement attempts in North America. Ten speakers will give us ideas to
ponder about why most of the early settlements did not survive. Of course,
St. Augustine did endure. This program, spearheaded by the Historical
Society, is the first of a series that will look at St. Augustine's 450
years as a city as we prepare for the 450th anniversary in 2015. Funding for
this program is provided also by the Florida Humanities Council.
