As always with these kinds of questions, it depends on who's doing the
listening and whose word they like to take.
Personally, with the symphonies and the operas, I get a lot of satisfaction
(most of the time) from Colin Davis, and pleasing interpretations of the
symphonies have come also from Benjamin Britten and from Jane Glover, to
name some others. I usually dread the "one size fits all" answers these
questions demand, but I know others love to provide them.
