Yes he did, his Op. 86, scored for percussion, harp and strings (about
20 minutes in length). One critic said of a performance of the concerto
in 1959 that "utilizing Russian and Oriental motives, timbres, and rhythms
. . . this is a full-scaled concerto making the utmost demands in the
virtuosity and musicianship of the soloist. For the harmonica, Tcherepnin
has dreamed up the impossible . . ."
Anyone know of a recording? Somebody told me there was once an unofficial,
with John Sebastian.
Much higher on my wish list is a recording of Mussorgsky's opera "Die
Heirat" (The Marriage), which A.T. completed and scored.
