I have always liked the idea of walk away splits, but have heard that the
bees will in many cases use a larvae that is on the old side and therefore
the quality of the queen would not be as good.
Any studies on this? I have noticed in one of the later Bee Mags(cant find
it yet) that one of the pioneers would induce bees to use larvae on the edge
of combs to avoid old larvae.
