Save the dates! Canada’s community of science centres invites you to our
most important annual event.  Timed to immediately precede the 5th SCWC,
the CASC 2008  Conference, to be held June 12-14 in London, Ontario,
promises to be an outstanding success with approximately 200 delegates,
including decision makers from Canada’s science centres, science museums,
children’s museums, planetariums, and affi liates, as well as key
stakeholders from government, media, and the business community. If you
play a role in enhancing and promoting public understanding and enjoyment
of science and technology, then this conference is a “must-attend”!    

Learn to Play!  Play to Learn!


As professionals who believe in the power of learning through play, we
know how important engaging, fun, hands-on, interactive experiences are
for children and for grown-ups.  We invite you to participate in an
opportunity to share experiences and learn techniques about engaging
audiences through play, and to have our own fun exploring emerging issues
and opportunities, and celebrating all that is exciting, inspiring and
successful about science centres in Canada and around the world today. We
invite proposals in the following areas:

Playing Outside the Sandbox
Share new, innovative approaches to learning, programs and exhibits for
early learners, youth, adults, seniors and families. The program committee
is especially interested in projects that emphasize intergenerational
learning or new research on learning.  

Playing for Keeps
Government funders, donors, members, and customers hold the keys to our
viability and sustainability.  How can we best build, develop, maintain
and grow these relationships? The program committee is especially
interested in sessions that address : Recognition of public vs. private
partnerships; Grant application skills; Assessing the value of sponsorship
and other proposals

Invitation to Play
How can we make new friends?  How can we encourage our old friends to
visit again and again.  Marketing is about the product, price, promotion,
place and people.  Have you found the right mix?  The program committee is
expecially interested in sessions that address: Basic marketing strategies
that work; Using new and emerging technologies for promotion (ie., social
networking sites); Media Partnerships; Customer service as a marketing tool


Team Play
Leadership.  Organizational Development.  Human Resources.  Management
Practices.  Policies and Procedures.  Hiring, firing and timeouts.  Do you
have the right people in the right positions resulting in a winning
organization?  Share your experiences and expertise with us.  Please. The
program committee is especially interested in sessions that address :
Front end staff training – show us your training programs for maintaining
morale and making a real difference to your visitors?; Developing good
Partnerships – timing, scope, exposure, what works?

Playing with Science
What’s the scoop on hot topics, new breakthroughs, and emerging issues? 
Let’s hear about science happening in science centres and museums,
universities, and public and private laboratories.

Just for the Fun of It
Are you itching to share information that doesn’t quite fit into one of
our categories?  We want to hear about it!
