Twice "related," I still think the brief Nyiregyhazi mania in the late
'70s was a sorry affair. Even as a Hungarian and somebody championed
to a fault by my predecessor on the SF Examiner, he was giving concerts
that were simply embarrassing.
At least for the West Coast, Nyiregyhazi was (re)discovered and praised
relentlessly by Michael Walsh (who went from the Ex to Time), and - if
memory serves - he gave a concert sponsored by an Oakland promoter (a
minister, no less) later indicted for fraud. No happy memories about
this.
