The Department of Anthropology of the University of Alaska Anchorage
seeks an archaeologist, Ph.D. in hand by August 9, 2009, for a
full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Anthropology.
The successful applicant will be required to teach three courses per
semester. These will include undergraduate courses on introductory
anthropology, fundamentals of archaeology, and the rise of civilization,
as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate courses on historical and
northern archaeology. Also required is the ability to teach courses in
archaeological theory and in contemporary field and lab techniques in
archaeology. Demonstrated experience in teaching and in historical
archaeology; the ability to teach a course in northern ethnography; and
knowledge of geographical information systems (GIS) or other appropriate
technical or data management/analysis expertise are also preferred. The
candidate will demonstrate the capability of continuing or developing an
active research program in northwestern North America. The appointment
will include the UAA tripartite mission of teaching, research, and
service, including both undergraduate and graduate student advising.
