The Phila. Orchestra still usually plays an overture or other short
work, plus a concerto and a symphony. However, this season there were
occasions when they played two symphonies and a concerto. Also when
they played Mahler's 6th, that was the only work on the program and
played without intermission but that is an exception due to its length.
I hope they don't do away with overtures. Except for the opera, where
else could we hear live performances of them?
