I get one of these calls a season. The best solution is to move the hives
(easy for me as on pallets) and return in a couple weeks in a slightly
different position. has always worked when a water source is closer than the
pool.
At times a washtub with water with a float might ease the situation and
humor the land owner by thinking you are trying to solve the problem.
Bees are creatures of habit. Once used to a water hole its hard to change
their habits. Even when a closer water source is available.
I have heard it said the bees are getting something they need from the
treated pool water but i really do not buy into the theory.
Another thing I have heard tried is to not use the pool for a week and raise
the chlorine level a bit to make the water unattractive however I have only
heard the method spoke of and have no direct experience.
