I support on a voluntary basis an observation hive at a local nature center. The bees are covering 1 3/4 deep frames and were requeened a few weeks ago. The queen is laying well but I noticed that the bees are opening some sealed brood. There is very little pollen in the cells - almost none - and I think they are using the older larvae as a protein source.
I only have a small jar of pollen left that I will work into a paste and feed to them. This amount may be adequate for 3-4 weeks. I am feeding them sugar water to help them increase their numbers for the spring laying but will need to supply them with more protein mix in about a month at the latest.
Any suggestions on which commercial pollen supplements / substitutes are most suitable? I think I'll need only a pound of supplement or so. I've never used any myself.
Thank you.
Waldemar
