Hi John and all

Wind is your problem. I have used screened bottom boards open to
the ground on most of my hives for several years. My hives are
located in a deep valley beside a river that flows all year so I
figure that moisture is my problem. I shovel snow around the bottom
of the hives when it gets very cold(-20C to -30C). I think that if
you can protect your hives from the wind blowing past , you can
leave your bottoms open.
