SUSPENSION OF PHD ADMISSIONS IN ANTHROPOLOGY (Historical Archaeology) AT
THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA FOR ONE YEAR (ENTERING SEPTEMBER 2007)
Because we were so successful last year in recruiting new PhD
students in Anthropology (including Historical Archaeology) for Fall 2006,
our Graduate Group has decided to suspend new PhD admissions for one year
(entering September 2007). This decision is related both to the high yield
this year (20 new graduate students with the majority being PhD students)
and to the Penn Graduate School policy of full funding for all new
full-time PhD students (5-year Benjamin Franklin Fellowship support for
each student).
We will reopen PhD admissions for Fall 2008 next year with a
recruitment of a full cohort of new doctoral students.
We are, however, accepting Masters' students (MA and MS) this year
for Fall 2007 but such students, as usual, must fund themselves.
Students in Historical Archaeology who want to study for the PhD
degree should not this year apply to Penn and such applications will not be
processed. You should apply, of course, to a number of the other excellent
PhD programs listed on the SHA List of Graduate Programs in Historical
Archaeology for Fall 2007.
