life, during which he composed some of his greatest works, including "The
Magic Flute" and the unfinished Requiem.
Hour 2-- Happy 75th, Sir Neville!: English conductor Sir Neville
Marriner, founder and conductor of London's prestigious Academy of St.
Martin-in-the-Fields, turned 75 earlier this week. He talks with Lisa

LISA SIMEONE IS HOST
Monday, APRIL 19
Hour 1-- The Canadian Baroque ensemble Tafelmusik goes to battle in New

with the Marx Brothers than martial music, by 17th-century Bohemian
composer Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber in concert at the 92nd Street
Y in Manhattan.
Hour 2-- Live in Studio 4A--A former child prodigy grown up: Shauna

Chamber Players Founder Miles Hoffman joins Lisa to answer a listener's
question about the mazurka, a traditional Polish dance that native son
Frederic Chopin transformed into classical piano pieces.
Wednesday, APRIL 21
Hour 1-- Milestones of the Millennium--William Shakespeare: The British
playwright would have celebrated his 435th birthday on Friday, but his
plays are ageless--and as popular as ever. In today's "Milestones of the
Millennium" installment, we'll take a look at the impact that the Bard has
had on the world of music, and how his plays have inspired great composers
to write everything from ballets to Broadway musicals.
Hour 2-- Randall Thompson's Legacy: For the 100th anniversary of the
birth of American composer and choral music specialist Randall Thompson,

job in the Old Line State--he'll become the music director of the Baltimore
Symphony in September. Last month he gave concert-goers a preview of
what's to come. He joined the BSO to conduct a program of music by
Beethoven, Berlioz, and Barber, and we'll hear music from that concert
during this hour.

Chavez and Silvestre Revueltas, both of whom would have tuned 100 this

many orchestras included Mexican classical music in their repertoire. So
Chavez founded the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Mexico in 1928, and today
it remains a major proponent of the Mexican classical repertoire. We'll
hear a selection of music from south of the border from their tour stop
